Synopsis:
Man Of Steel: Recut retells the story from Clark's perspective but maintains the gripping action. Why does he have powers? What support does he get from his parents? And what should he do when Earth is threatened?
Intentions:
With inspiration from the Smallville TV series, I wanted to make the story of Man Of Steel more believable in terms of how Clark deals with his abilities, how he learns to understand who is is as a person, and where he fits in. I have also added a "Marvel" style extra scene in the closing credits.
Change List:
I have created a more linear story from Clark's perspective in this edit (the first edit!) of Man Of Steel. Krypton is still part of the story, but seen only in flashbacks. We learn about Krypton and its fate as Clark learns about it, and we experience the development of his abilities as Clark does.
Additional Notes:
A complete re-ordering of scenes and audio, with simple transition effects used for flashbacks of Krypton. Version 2 now also has an additional break in the flashbacks after feedback that they play out a little long. When Zod makes his global announcement to Earth, it bothered me that the video image is distorted but his voice becomes clear, so I added a slight distortion to his voice so it compliments what the transmission looks like. I removed some corny lines, and I also made some subtle edits in the Metropolis battle scene that include removing a couple collapsing buildings. There is still complete carnage as in the theatrical release, however. The new Version 2 of Man of Steel: Recut released Feb 2015 has some additional changes and fixes such as the entire movie has been given a slight colour correction. It now doesn't appear as grey as the theatrical release. I utilized a new audio rip of the entire movie eliminating all audio pops, but I also improved some audio mixing and transitions between spliced scenes. I didn't change the opening title sequence however - some people hated it while others weren't concerned at all - but I did recut the classroom scene immediately proceeding it to better play out young Clark's "visions." Some people didn't like the way I edited this scene the first time so v2 fixes it. I also used some zoom & pan effects to give the audience a better chance to notice the satellite in space has Wayne Enterprises labelled on it, and v2 now includes new closing credits with the Man of Steel logo and a reference to the sequel, Batman vs Superman Dawn of Justice.
