Intentions:
As a lover of the film, 2001 is challenging to introduce to new audiences. I wanted a way to show the amazing story without the overhead of 1968 editing technology influencing shot length.

Change List:
Shortening the film using only existing sounds proved challenging mostly for sound reasons. Much of the film is scored, with score, sound effects, and dialogue all intermixed. So particular care was taken to use sound and music in creative ways in the new shot construction. Cuts and Additions: * deeply shortening the prehistory sequence. (The book is concise here.) * shortening and in some cases removing the multiple montage docking sequences * cutting back to dramatic tension elements at key moments (monolith in the prehistory sequence, H.A.L. later) * changing the timewarp / ending order considerably * trims throughout * no added CGI, and no added sounds
