The Faneditor wanted it to appear as though the footage recovered from the jungle, the deaths, and the gore were all authentic. He also wanted to emphasize the point that the natives appear more civilized than the “civilized” man.

Professor Monroe’s role in the film has been altered to just an audience member watching the horrific footage. All the other scenes of him have been removed. What we are left with is a much shorter, and hopefully more realistic experience.
