Synopsis:
This edit is for those who prefer a non-musical experience of a beloved classic. It's not meant to offend fans of musicals or the original version—it's simply an alternative take for like-minded viewers who feel that the musical elements detract from the story or tone.
If you enjoy the original as is, that's totally fine—this version just isn't for you. Different tastes are valid, and this is one editor’s passion project aimed at offering a different flavor of the same dish.
Intentions:
BECAUSE YOU ASKED FOR IT...
If you enjoy musicals or love the original version of this film, this may not be for you—and that’s okay! Feel free to skip it. This version is specifically crafted for those who don’t share that enthusiasm for musicals and want to experience the film without the frequent musical interruptions.
I’ve always wished someone in the community would take on the task of removing unnecessary musical numbers from films.
Turns out, that someone is… me!
As a Gen Xer who's never really connected with musicals (with rare exceptions—Rocky Horror in theaters being a wild ride), I’ve noticed a growing trend of “Glee-ification” in modern storytelling. Maybe those raised on GLEE are behind it? Hard to say. What I can say is that, for me, it often pulls focus from story and tone.
Even The Simpsons now seem to squeeze in a song almost every episode. But I digress.
This one was tough to sit through. And when I say "taking one for the team," I mean it. You’re welcome! If I had a dollar for every time I shouted “ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?” at the screen when another song began, I’d have funded a full orchestral remix just to cut them all out.
Is it really that bad? In my opinion—yes. But hey, that’s subjective. If you disagree, no worries.
Change List:
Removed all major musical numbers
Edited transitions to maintain narrative flow
Adjusted pacing for a non-musical rhythm
Retained critical scenes to preserve story coherence
