Synopsis:

This edit aims to replace the John Williams score for Episode IV with rock music that was released in '77 or earlier. This edit uses the HAL9000 Special Edition edit as a base and has no visual cuts or adjustments, just purely audio edits. This is different from @mredthefed 's very cool "heavy star wars" series as I didn't change any of the actual visual elements of the movie and tried to preserve a similar viewing experience to the original. Thus, a lot of these songs just have instrumental bits in the film and are cut to be hopefully not overly distracting.

Change List:

I've used selective bits of the 5.1 mix as well as vocalremover.org to seperate out the music from the film. Because vocalremover.org is meant for music and not film audio I then had to go through the "bass" "drums" "guitar" "vox" and "other" stems and manually try to save any sound fx or necessary bits of audio that I could. Some scenes work better than others with the biggest challenges being the space battles. The laser sounds and some of the other sound fx tend to get scooped into the music track. R2's beeps and whistles were tough as well. I then went through the film and manually added sound effects and ambient room noises where necessary. I think someone could do a much better job at re-constructing the score-less audio and I would LOVE for someone to take another shot at this. I was mainly focused on making the audio work in the context of this new score and some scenes still sound a little janky on their own. I suspect that like an AI trained on film sounds would do a much better job (although I had worse luck with the mvsep bandit plus algorithim) and/or someone could go a lot harder on the manual fx replacement and probably get a smoother result. The songs have been cut up and edited to fit the film. Beyond that there's some reverb/delay applied at points but otherwise that's all I did to affect the songs themselves.
