Synopsis:
After disappearing for seven years, revolutionary spaceship Event Horizon is rediscovered. The team of scientists sent to investigate find that the entire crew is dead, and a terrifying, malevolent presence is lurking on board.
Intentions:
I’m a rabid Redlettermedia fan and after my umpteenth viewing of their Event Horizon re:View, I found myself suddenly spurned to rework the 90s sci-fi/horror cult classic.
Gone are the majority of the egregious CGI effects, the misplaced humor (normally caused by Cooper), and the ill-fitting edm tracks that open and close the film, resulting in 18 minutes cut. Additionally, I find myself surprised that the only other fanedits I could find of the film incorporate major sections of other movies, those being Event Horizon Slashed AKA Killer Horizon by Mollo/Rock Savage and In the Mouth of Event Horizon by Rollwave, with elements of The Exorcist, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, and In the Mouth of Madness, respectively.
In that same tradition, I’ve added 8 minutes from a different film, the same genre and era as Event Horizon. I’ll leave it at that...
Change List:
CUTLIST:
Replaced opening credits score with Michael Kamen & Orbital’s Lewis and Clark
Cut the sweeping CGI shot of the Lewis and Clark hallway
Cut the opening crawl and the first exterior of the ship - if a first-time viewer went in blind, I think it'd be more unsettling to be introduced to the narrative with a visual of someone floating, screaming. Plus, in reality we made no moon colony in 2015, we're still far away from settling a Mars colony, and the nature of the Event Horizon is explained fifteen minutes into the edit anyway
Removed the intercut shots of Dr. Weir's reaction to the Clare jump scare, it now cuts directly to him being released from hypersleep
Cut Cooper's infamous line to Starck about coffee’s temperature and color
Removed shot of the CGI bridge extending from the Lewis and Clark to the Event Horizon
Trimmed frames of the CGI floating objects in the Event Horizon
Removed Baby Bear interacting with CGI coolant
Trimmed the corpse jumpscare
Cut the Corpsicle line
Placed Baby Bear's entrance from the whirligig room after the corpse jumpscare
Trimmed some of Baby Bear touching the black portal goo to help reduce presence of the aged effects
Removed Cooper telling Baby Bear to hold on
Cut Miller’s line, "Don't you walk away from me, Mister"
Slowed down the final transmission of the Event Horizon to help the audience better interpret the horror montage
Eliminated the infamous Cooper, "Motherfucker!" sequence, along with him returning before Dr. Weir shoots the window out
Removed the infamous scene during Weir's attack on Captain that Redlettermedia joked about because of its poor sound effects
Trimmed frames from Miller's fall into the water while on fire
Cut the morph from Corrick into Weir due to aged effects
Cut Miller's line, "You won't take my crew!” due to the line delivery and poor sound effects
Placed epilogue between Starck and Cooper going back to hypersleep and waking up
Replaced closing credits music with Michael Kamen & Orbital’s Outer Door and Bio Scan
