An eccentric yet compassionate extraterrestrial Time Lord zips through time and space to defend the earth, and solve problems across the universe - traveling via the TARDIS (Time and Relative Dimensions in Space), which is his old and occasionally unreliable spaceship that resembles a blue police phone box

Intentions:

When I was originally introduced to Doctor Who, I tried starting at the very beginning with season 1 - the trash cans eating people and stop-motion mannequins - and hated it. Much later, a friend mentioned you could really watch the doctors out of order and I started browsing to see if any of the later seasons were more palatable. I came to the conclusion that you need both an interesting doctor and an excellent companion, and to me there was only one pair that fit perfectly. So this is a minor fanedit to make the best parts of that series into a self-contained nine-episode story, starting with The Eleventh Hour and ending with The Time of the Doctor, with edits to fix any continuity or plot holes that come from the larger series. ymmv, but this is my preferred way to watch the series, I think it's a concise single-season length plot arc that feels satisfying, has a lot of heart, and fully expresses the essence of the doctor.

Change List:

Several episodes only cut the "next time" bit at the end, but because this edit skips and re-arranges episodes those would be continuity errors so it's important to remove them. +Ep1 The Eleventh Hour - trim a bit of new-doctor clumsiness/food silliness - cut a bit of hospital foreshadowing - trim a bit of police/kissogram gag - cut the "hacking the signal backward" goofiness along with the nephew - cut his "all of time and space" offer to Amy Pond to keep Clara's story more unique - continuity fix +Ep2 Asylum of the Daleks + insert a bit of time-war footage from Day of the Doctor to introduce the Daleks - cut some of the Amy Pond marriage/relationship callbacks to S5/S6 - cut "next time" +Ep3 The Bells of Saint John - cut a couple minutes of medieval stuff - continuity fix - cut "next time" +Ep4 The Rings of Akhaten - cut "next time" +Ep5 Journey to the Centre of the Tardis - cut Doctor quizzing Clara about who she is - cut "next time" +Ep6 Cold War - cut "next time" +Ep7 Nightmare in Silver + insert a bit of Clara at home from The Crimson Horror to set up the story - cut "next time" +Ep8 The Day of the Doctor - trim the time-war stuff we used in episode 2 - cut some of the Billie Piper bits - cut some of the medieval bits - cut some of the doctors/door joke - cut insulting Elizabeth - cut Elizabeth marriage and some interactions with other doctors - trim a few sections of weird dialogue to smooth out the conversations - cut "Trenzalore is where you die" plot line (continuity) - cut ending voiceover +Ep9 The Time of the Doctor - trim to make the fall more compelling
