Synopsis:

An ex-cop investigates a doomsday-cult's connection with a missing girl.

Intentions:

The Empty Man was a suprisingly great film in an otherwise lackluster year, that managed to get cosmic horror right. With this edit, I wanted to focus the story more on the cult aspect.

Editing Details: The film has many great sequences (particularly in the prologue) that aren't really necessary for my version of the film. I find the cult aspect of the movie more interesting, so all scenes involving Amanda's friends are sometimes cliche'd but well directed. Cuts and Additions: Cuts: Significantly trimmed the 1995 sequence. Introduction to James' life. Introduction to Amanda. Now the first time we see Amanda is at the hospital. All scenes and mentions of Amanda's friends. That includes investigating their houses. This is a huge junk of the film that is removed. I really dislike the exaggerated color grading in modern films, whereby it looks like one or two colors were crammed into every shot. In this movie's case, it was the color green. For my edit, I have significantly toned down the green and boosted the reds a bit to give the skin tones some life. I'm a believer that tone should be demonstrated through lighting, not aggressive color grading.
