Synopsis:
The story of Superman and his story remains the same. The main differences are adding in some scenes that were never included in any of the original UK releases, removing filler dialogue and streamlining other scenes to improve the pacing and making the movie a bit more realistic.
The story of Superman and his story remains the same. The main differences are adding in some scenes that were never included in any of the original UK releases, removing filler dialogue and streamlining other scenes to improve the pacing and making the movie a bit more realistic.
Intentions:
The original approach was to simply insert the 3 scenes of Lex Luthor trying to stop Superman from entering his underground base into the theatrical version as they were never included in the UK release. After watching the movie I realised that were quite a lot scenes that were unnecessarily long, some of the dialogue wasn't great and there were some shots that were, in my opinion, not that good. Based on this, I set about restructuring and streamlining a lot of the movie. Placements of some of the scenes towards the end of the movie have been rearranged to give, what I believe to be, a better pace and timing to the film. I also removed some aspects that seemed a little unrealistic (even within the realms of superheroism).

The main major cuts are made to the following sequences to improve dialogue/pacing/structure: - Jor-el's meeting with the council - Jor-el preparing for baby Kal-el to leave - The destruction of Krypton - Superman's journey to earth - Superman's flight with Lois Lane - The whole earthquake sequence, particularly the town being flooded and Lois Lane being crushed - Superman's turning back time There are also some additional small cuts.
