Synopsis:

An edit of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith that condenses the film into a hour and 2 minute, score-only version with subtitles. This format allows the score to be played with the narrative beats as a sort of visual soundtrack.

Intentions:

To create a version of the film that primarily uses score to convey the broad story of the original film, while also slimming down and trimming out certain elements.

Change List:

-The chancellor rescue mission as a whole has a lot of the unnecessary elements cut out. Particularly the goofy slapstick with R2, the elevator portion, the ship turning around, etc. It has been cut down to the more important elements that serve the story such as the opening ship battle, the fight with Dooku, the capture leading to Grievous, and the ship landing. -As I am opting to not reuse music from the prior films, I have replaced the cue during the Invisible Hand landing (which was source from Phantom Menace) and replaced it with an equally appropriate cue from this film. -Scene with Anakin and Padme on the balcony before his nightmare is cut as for the purpose of this edit, it doesn't contribute too much to the overall story. -Obi-Wan warning Anakin about the chancellor before going to his office is cut as much of the same sentiment is displayed later. -Council scene after Anakin's outburst is cut down to not focus so much on their planning for Kashyyk and instead vaguely references sending who they can to systems in need. -Battle of Kashyyk is cut entirely and only shown later during the Order 66 sequence. -Obi-Wan talking to Anakin is the only use of score from a prior film, which is The Phantom Menace ("He is the Chosen One). As there was no music in this sequence and I did not use it in the edit for that film, I placed it here. -Cut out Obi-Wan flying out to Utapau after talking to Anakin for the sake of maintaining pace (which really hurt because the score in this sequence is wonderful). -Condensed Obi-Wan planning with Cody and arriving on Utapau into a small montage before getting to Grievous. This also meant cutting talking with the prime minister entirely and just doing a fade to Obi-Wan riding the creature. -Magnaguard fight before duel with Grievous cut to make more efficient use of the available cues. Additionally, an unused score of the clones arriving is used. -Mace and council suspecting Palpatine and considering removing him from office is cut as much of this sentiment is displayed through their general mistrust of him. -Mace and Palpatine duel has much of the middle portion cut as it's the probably the worst looking fight in the film. Instead cutting from the hallway to the latter portion of the fight. -Completely unused score for Palpatine shooting lightning at Mace is placed in where there was no music originally. Also, Palpatine's reactions of being weak are downplayed to make it more subtle. -Anakin's march and the intro for the Order 66 originally used an edit of score from both the prior films. I've instead used an unused portion of the "I Am the Senate" track to make it more musically unique. -Palpatine and Anakin plotting specific events is cut for efficiency and instead those lines are used as intros during both the Jedi Temple march and the Separatist slaughter. -Anakin killing younglings and Bail confronting the clones is cut for both pacing reasons and in the case of the former, being a bit much. -Yoda and Obi-Wan's respective escapes are very cut down to keep things moving. -3PO and R2's presence are generally cut down as they are details that don't benefit this particular edit. -Palpatine's talk to the Separatists and Bail learning of Palpatine's senate session is cut as these things are shown later. -Obi-Wan and Yoda fighting clones is cut. -Mustafar sequence has some lines tweaked in the subtitles. -Anakin and Obi-Wan force pushing each other fades into Yoda and Palpatine struggling. This meant cutting the portion where they are throwing the senate platforms at each other, which is partially done because Duel of the Fates being a reuse here and for the sake of pacing. "I have the high ground" and "This is the end for you, my master" are cut both for pacing and for them feeling a bit unnecessary. -Obi-Wan journey to take Padme for hospitalization and Palpatine taking Anakin, are cut entirely. -"She has lost the will to live" is cut. -The infamous "NO" from Vader is cut. -Padme funeral and Vader watching Death Star are cut as this uses an alternate version of the funeral cue used shortly before. -Qui-Gon mention and 3PO memory wipe are cut as they are more just light explanations for things in the original trilogy that don't feel necessary. -To use time efficiently, I have spliced the bits of Bail and Obi-Wan expositing what to do with the children into the last shots of the film to create visual coherence with the dialogue.

Additional Notes:

-Much of the dialogue is condensed/adjusted to account for the new pace of this cut, which means it may not always lip-sync. However, most of it pulled directly from the film with some sillier stuff removed.
