Synopsis:
An edit of Star Wars: Attack of the Clones that condenses the film into a 55-minute, score-only version with subtitles. This format allows the score to be played with the narrative beats as a sort of visual soundtrack.
Intentions:
To create a version of the film that primarily uses score to convey the broad story of the original film, while also slimming down and trimming out certain elements.
Change List:
-Across the board, Anakin's more unlikable elements such as his creepy fixation towards Padme and his general sense of unbridled arrogance are removed to make him a lot more likable with his interactions with other characters. This means a lot of scenes removed such as Obi-Wan and Anakin unpleasantly arguing constantly, Anakin saying seeing Padme in his dreams, etc.
-Obi-Wan's scenes have been cut down to mitigate that element of severe distrust and passiveness towards Anakin, such as his doubt when discussing Anakin with Yoda and Mace.
-With the pacing of this cut, I have opted to change the structure a bit by combining scenes that pertain to Obi-Wan and Anakin/Padme respectively so it doesn't feel as frenetic going back and forth. For example, Obi-Wan going to Dex's diner, the Jedi Library, and Yoda with the younglings are put together as a suite of scenes so to speak. This will apply for Anakin and Padme scenes as well.
Anakin and Padme going to talk to the queen is removed as it didn't fit the pace of the edit and most elements established there are revealed or elaborated on further through the film.
Sifo-Diyas' mention is changed to just be "a Jedi" as it seems like a detail that's needlessly specific. This change functions as a way to perhaps make it seem more obvious that Dooku was potentially the Jedi in reference while also not contradicting "canon" so to speak.
The Meadow Scene removes Anakin's talk about dictatorship's function to give the scene a more cutesy/fun sense of romance instead.
Anakin forcing the pear to Padme is removed because CGI pear is unintentionally hilarious.
Fireplace scene with both of them mitigates the desperation on Anakin's part to be with Padme, to make their agreement to stop more mutual while maintaining that conflict.
-Jango asteroid space battle is cut as it is a needless drag on the film and the edit, despite having some really fantastic music. Considering how it affected the tightness of the pace, I opted to remove it.
-Anakin does not kill the Tuskens, as it fades to him bringing the body immediately after. The following scene where he rants about wanting to be more powerful, still maintains that anger without him actually having committed any atrocities. Instead of blaming Obi-Wan for holding him back, he fixates on what he perceives to be his own weakness and contending with his hatred towards the Tuskens.
-Jar Jar giving emergency powers is cut, and changed to exposition that the senate has voted by majority for them.
-C-3PO and R2 are removed from both the factory sequence and the Geonosis Arena battle as it is a needless and silly distraction.
-Conveyor Belt sequence is cut down heavily.
-Dialogue between Anakin and Padme before execution is adjusted to be less stilted.
-Yoda and Count Dooku throwing things at each other is cut and just uses the lightning portion.
Additional Notes:
-Much of the dialogue is condensed/adjusted to account for the new pace of this cut, which means it may not always lip-sync. However, most of it pulled directly from the film with some sillier stuff removed.
-A lot of music is plagued by static, which meant having to do a lot of background noise removal and instrument replacements to account for this. Some artifacts still remain, but overall is cleaner compared to the original recordings.
