Synopsis:

As a huge fan of the original Creepshow, I've always been disappointed by the sequel. For one thing, it only has three stories instead of the original film's five. And the lack of original composer John Harrison's iconic score didn't help. This FanMix adds a story and the original Creepshow theme, as well as reordering the stories and trimming one to improve pace, to bring Creepshow 2 up as close as possible to the standard of its predecessor.

Intentions:

I started this fanedit just to add the distinctive original Creepshow theme music that was missing from the sequel, and tighten up the very slow "Chief Wood'n'Head" story. But I then read that "The Cat From Hell" segment from Tales From the Darkside: The Movie (directed by Creepshow director / Creepshow 2 producer George A. Romero) was actually originally written for Creepshow 2 (by Romero, from a story by Stephen King), but didn't get filmed for Creepshow 2 because the budget was too low. So I added this segment.

Change List:

Editing Details: My philosophy was to create no new material, so it's all legitimately from the era. This means that the added story, "The Cat From Hell," doesn't have an intro by the Creep nor a comic-book title page at its beginning, unlike the other segments. I used a few shots of the comic book ad pages from Creepshow (with a music cue from Creepshow) as a transition into this story, so it feels pretty close to the style of the movie. The original Creepshow didn't have a "host" doing intros to each story, so it feels a bit more like that movie. Cuts and Additions: Swapped in original Creepshow theme during the opening titles Moved up "The Raft" story to be the first story (slight cut in The Creep's intro to accommodate this change) Added "The Cat From Hell" story from "Tales From The Darkside: The Movie" with a brief shot of comic book ad pages and music from Creepshow to transition into this story. Slight edit to the Creep's intro to "Chief Wood'n'Head" story in its new placement Many small edits to tighten up "Chief Wood'n'Head" story (6 min total cuts) Swapped in original Creepshow theme during the end titles

Additional Notes:

Because Creepshow 2 only had three stories, the movie wasn't edited as tightly as it would have been with 4 or 5 stories. I don't find this too noticeable though, except in the "Chief Wood'n'Head" story. I find it very loosely edited so I tightened it up with many small edits. I think these edits won't even be specifically noticeable even to people familiar with the movie, but they result in 6 minutes being cut out!

Other Sources:

Music and a brief transition shot of comic book ad pages from Creepshow
