Synopsis:
Eccentric physicist Seth Brundle prides himself on his creation of the first matter transporter, but when a common housefly enters his pod during a human trial, Brundle discovers that him and the fly have merged into one. Veronica, Seth's reporter turned lover, can only bear witness to his worsening condition as The Fly consumes his very being.
Intentions:
Inspired by TheScribblingMan's The Thing From 1951, this fan edit aims to show David Cronenberg's The Fly as if it were created in the 50s. As per the Hays Code, all sexual scenes have been greatly reduced, gore and harsh language have been removed entirely.
The film has also been formatted to a 4:3 aspect ratio with new title and end cards, new audio effects, and a black and white color grade.
Change List:
- (v2) 20th Century Fox logo (created by The Remaker on YouTube), crossfade into a Sterling Edits 50s variant logo
- 4:3 Formatting (will be improved in possible version 2)
- Black and white color grade
- Audio adjusted to fit 50s aesthetic
- Made Stathis less of a creep ("casual sex" line removed, stalking removed, etc.)
- (v2) First love scene kept intact
- (v2) Baboon teleporter failure scene rescored with “Help Me” track from The Fly ‘58
- (v2) Cut into interview scene made less jarring
- Sexual content/conversations mostly removed
- Arm wrestle scene changed (broken arm is implied via crunching sound and Marky’s screams of pain)
- Stathis' hand/foot melting shots reduced (the melting is implied from the “vomit drop” shots, and sound effects)
- Opening titles changed
- End title card added
- SPOILERS: Brundlefly's death less graphic
- v2 retains a couple of shots of the Brundlefly’s head exploding before white flash
- v2 adds shot of Brundlefly’s still body (shot framed above the now exploded head)
